Why a Public Profile Shows Only Some of Its Posts

Sometimes you open a public profile and feel like you're not seeing everything — the grid seems short, or posts you remember aren't there. On a public account, this almost never means content is being privacy-blocked. It usually comes down to how grids load, what the owner has done with their posts, and which tab you're viewing.

Reason 1: grids load in batches

The most common reason you see "only some" posts is that the grid loads incrementally. Instagram (and any tool that displays a grid) doesn't load every post a profile has ever made all at once — that would be slow, especially for accounts with thousands of posts.

Instead, the grid loads a batch of recent posts first. As you scroll toward the bottom, the next batch loads, then the next. This is called lazy-loading, and it's a performance technique, not a restriction.

So if you glance at a profile and only see two or three rows, that's just the first batch. Keep scrolling and more posts appear. The "missing" older posts aren't hidden — they simply haven't loaded into view yet. Reason 2: the owner archived or deleted posts

A public account stays public, but the owner still controls which posts exist on the grid. Two owner actions reduce what's visible:

• Archiving. Instagram lets owners archive a post, which removes it from the public grid while keeping a private copy only the owner can see. Archived posts aren't viewable by anyone else — not followers, not non-followers, not a viewer.
• Deleting. A deleted post is gone entirely, removed from the grid permanently.

If a post you remember isn't on the grid anymore, the owner likely archived or deleted it. This isn't a privacy setting in the account-wide sense — the account is still public — it's a per-post choice by the owner about what to keep on display.

The important distinction: archived and deleted posts are unavailable to everyone equally. There's no version of the grid where they reappear, and no tool reveals them, because the owner removed them from public display.

Reason 3: you're on a filtered tab

A profile isn't just one grid — it has tabs, and each tab filters what you see.

If you're on the Reels tab, you'll only see Reels — photo posts won't appear there, so it looks like a fraction of the profile. If you're on the Tagged tab, you'll see posts other people made that tagged this account, not the account's own posts at all.

To see the complete picture of what an account posted, you want the main grid (Posts tab), which combines all of an account's own posts in chronological order. If a profile looks sparse, check which tab you're on first.

What "only some posts" does not mean

It's worth being clear about what a partial grid is not:

• It's not a privacy block. A public account shows its public posts to everyone — see how to view a public profile without an account. If you can see any posts, the account is public and isn't hiding the rest behind privacy.
• It's not a viewer limitation invented to restrict you. Batch loading and tab filtering are standard, neutral behaviors that apply to everyone, including the owner.
• It's not a sign you need to follow. On a public account, following doesn't reveal more posts than a non-follower already sees — the public grid is the same for everyone.

The one case where you'd see no posts is a private account. There, non-followers see the profile picture and counts but zero posts. That's a true privacy restriction, and it's all-or-nothing — you either see the public grid (public account) or you see nothing (private account). A partial grid means you're looking at a public account and just haven't loaded or navigated to everything yet.

How to see all of a public account's posts

If you want to make sure you're seeing everything a public account has on display:

• Scroll to the bottom. Keep scrolling to trigger each batch to load until no more posts appear.
• Stay on the main grid. Make sure you're on the Posts tab, not Reels or Tagged — posts vs Reels on a public profile grid explains why the counts differ between them.
• Remember archived posts are gone. If a specific post isn't there, the owner archived or deleted it — that's expected and can't be undone from the outside.

With those in mind, the grid you see is the full public set the account currently displays. To browse a public profile's complete grid, open the Instagram Profile Viewer and scroll through it.
